LECTURE

Week 1:
Understand the development of animation and its subsequent development.

Week 2:
Learn about Blender. Blender is a free and open source 3D computer graphics software set for creating animated movies, visual effects, art, 3D print models, motion graphics, interactive 3D applications, and virtual reality.

Week 3:
Learn about viewport shading and rendering, camera angles, and exported images.

INSTRUCTIONS

Exercise 1: Model Blocks for Primitive Objects

Think of any object, such as a train, a snowman, a robot, etc., that can be simplified into a combination of original shapes.

Draw your ideas for inspiration.
Use Blender to model objects using primitive objects such as spheres, cylinders, cubes, cones, and so on.

Assign basic materials to objects. Use viewport shading techniques to set the final appearance by manipulating the appearance of lights and shadows to make it look better. Compose objects within the camera for final output by adjusting right angles and frames.

Exercise 2 : Non-destructive Modeling

Refer animals drawings that are showing basic shape construction from Cube, Sphere, Cylinder etc.

Use primitive objects such as cubes, spheres, and cylinders to build animal models by using modifier tools learned from non-destructive modeling tools in Blender, such as subdivision surfaces, arrays, curves, simple deformations, lattices, and so on.

The model you create should be a low polygon with a faceted appearance and segments, as shown in the example drawing. Use the Normal>Auto Smooth setting to get a smooth surface appearance for low polygon models.

Assign basic materials to objects. Use viewport shading techniques to set the final appearance by manipulating the appearance of lights and shadows to make it look better. Compose objects within the camera for final output by adjusting right angles and frames.

Exercise 3: Modeling from a cylinder

Think of any object made of cylindrical shape such as a plate, bottle, bowl, glass etc.

Make a composition from multiple different objects as in the example.

Get as much as references such as blueprint or images for selected objects.

Model the object using a primitive cylinder by utilising modeling tools like Extrude, Bevel, Inset and Loop Cut.

Exercise 4: Modeling Hard Surfaces

Download the blueprint/reference provided.

Use images as a reference for modeling.

Use the hard surface techniques and tools you have learned to simulate Carramby.
